In the early days of thrash metal there arose a handful of bands who brought the genre to the masses - among them Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus and Overkill. Metallica was to become the biggest of them all, but following close behind was Megadeth, formed by former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine. Metallica and Megadeth have each had successful careers, carving out legacies which have forever shaped metal music. Along the way there have been triumphs, tragedies and rivalries. Many metal fans love both bands, but some favor one over the other.
